written by Tomas M. 1 year ago All people have the 'believing in things' hardcoded, because it helped us in the evolution process. It was very important during our childhood to 'believe', because only those who believed their parents' statements like 'these fruits are poisonous' or 'fire will burn you' survived and reproduced. There is no space for own experiments, we must have 'faith' in things which are said by our parents or other people who are close to us. Religion is a side product of that. If you were told to believe in god as a kid and to never question that, you are not going to give up.
I was fortunate to be taught by our secular school system to think cricically and form my own opinions, so even if my dad made me a christian, I was able to quit that madness.

@TOMAS,
I guess here, I have to DISAGREE with you. Many people out there believe in you. You are an excellent person and very knowledgeable make linux live scripts and give us SLAX. There are many people who like and use your distribution and have all the faith in the world with you.
When it comes to religion,
Slax is a religion in itself. It has many followers, although many experienced users have left it and formed their own, but still will they quit using it because you come up with some wierd shit about God and he does not exist stuff. Who says you don't question it, you don't have to be like everybody else, yes we can question what is going on, yes we can question, but nobody has the answers, not even you Mr. TOMAS with all your intelligence and know how. The school system is also flawed and has some faults' too. so there is wrong everywhere. You can't be 100% right either. [2] sado wrote 1 year ago:
It's his blog and he can write there anything he wants imho. I think he's right, saying that no one would believe in God if hadn't been told to by parents etc. It does not matter if God exists or not in that question - everyone believing [except some miracles or revelations, if we do believe in such things] knows about existence of God because somebody had told him about God - or did you knew that God exists since you were born? [3] SKEPTIC_SLAX_USER wrote 1 year ago:
@Sado,
I know it is his blog. I am not questioning that. Read what I wrote. Don't question me. I am just saying that he(Tomas) does not have all the answers. Not you Mr Sado/Mrs Sado. There are some people who did not have mom and dad and they apparently know about God. So I don't necessarily have to buy it.
I say yes we can doubt, question God's existence, but NO we don't have the answers. Maybe till we die, but then it might be too late?
Did you know about God's existence before I was born? No, but I have might been preprogrammed to believe in him even before I was born. But that is another thing? [4] piszczyk^3 wrote 1 year ago:
Completely agree with Tomas. The worst thing about, all that stuff is build upon blind trust. So when you grow and start to feel something is wrong about it, you come to a conclusion to trust no-one. Sad... [5] J wrote 1 year ago:
@sceptic_slax_user
I wouldn't say slax is a religion. It has some things in common with religion, but religion always include belief in something that apparently does not exist. Slax do exist, even if only as electrical charges, or flux alignment patterns.
@piszczyk
Trust no one. Is that so bad? Who can you completely trust? I don't place 100% trust in even myself under certain circumstances. I do try to avoid those circumstances though. Trust only to the extent that, if the trust is broken, you are willing to face the consequences.
And of course the God question. I think there are several reasons why people believe in such a fantasy. It would be logically sound to presume that homo sapiens and their ancestors drew benefit from believing/following their parents. But now when we have come to the point where we realize our own inevitable demise, I believe we tend to rationalize death. To do so we need to believe in something.
I've been afraid of death ever since i thought about eternity of non-existance for the first time when i was around 3-5 years old. But I take comfort in the fact that we certainly do not know everything. And we might never have access to the means required to figure out the innermost basic fundamentals of the universe. Does space end? If so, what is behind it?
Just live your lives as best you can and don't think about death too much and you'll be fine without God or any other invisible friends you might have.
It must be noted that this is a suggestion, and I do respect peoples right to believe in whatever. But I will state that you are pretty closed minded and ignorant if you do not at least question your faith, or anything else for that matter.
Do raise questions and seek answers. [6] forum wrote 1 year ago:

You should say with/without God, for those folks that believe and have faith all the way. Remember that many still believe in Santa Claus too! [7] Methinks wrote 1 year ago:
What is funny is the amount of energy you, Tomas, spend talking about things you are trying to convince others don't exist.
If they don't exist, then what is the logic of talking about it? [8] Tomas M wrote 1 year ago:
@Methinks:
It doesn't take so much energy to talk... about anything :)
I am not trying to convince others that God doesn't exist. I don't know it anyway. Nevertheless, since it is evident that there are millions of people who believe in nonsense, I worry about it a lot. [9] AngryGod wrote 1 year ago:

What Madness? I am very Mad now. Not at you Tomas, because I like Slax very much. But why are you worrying a lot? Worry about your family and your loved ones. In the world there are lots of idiots who believe in nonsense anyway what is wrong with that? There are millions and millions who belive in Santa Claus, and they have seen him?
You don't know it anyway! Coooooooooo oooooo l. I like it that way. You don't know it, no one knows it! At least you reflect on the issue. [10] Methinks wrote 1 year ago:

Thanks for clarifying your position, which makes more sense.
Indeed many people say pure crap 'in the name of God'.
Just like some misguided folks say crap about Linux thinking they are actually advancing its cause. And obviously this is also true in countless other areas.
It is courageous to attempt doing something about it, so long as in the process, the baby is not thrown with the bath water. [11] Joe Clu wrote 1 year ago:

so we all 'b'elieve in what ever because we rely in our set of 'm'odels of the world, that the 'f'aith at the individual level. 'R'eligion covers a different scale of such 'm'odels.. thus the capitalized names i give to them.
But all in all, it's based in a survival scheme wired in our brains in order to reduce the cost of memory management. Indeed how would the millipede start its walk if it had to move entirely consciously?
did i really say we come from millipede?
Thank you all, and Tomas for your work [12] WhooooooooooooA wrote 1 year ago:

@Tomas
Do you still speak to your father?
Does he treat you the same? Why did you go against his wish? Do you actually believe that evolution thingy? What can we do to convince you that no matter what people tell you, you should forget about the God thing and spend your energy doing what you do best, you KNOW!
I hate to question you, and sometimes I wish I was close to SNAP you out of it, "The MADDNESS" towards God and/or its religions :), but I am far far far away :( [13] Watch Metheor Shower wrote 1 year ago:
