written by Tomas M. 329 days ago The amazing and unbeatable Slax 6.1.1 is released. You can rest assured that there will be no more new version during the following two days :) I'll be mostly offline, attending the Linux Expo conference in Czech.
What's new in 6.1.1? The most important change is related to IDE_GENERIC driver. In all the previous versions of Slax, it has been compiled directly in kernel, causing it to overlap specific drivers for particular hardware. Due to that fact, you could notice that your SATA devices appeared as IDE (PATA) ones (on some hardware).
That would be no problem at all, but what made me really unhappy was the inability to use hdparm and set such devices to support ultraDMA, so the disk drives were terribly slow. This problem is now gone, all SATA disks should be now seen as SATA with full speed.
I noticed the problem when I tried to install Slax on Asus Eee Box; if you don't know this incredible piece of hardware, I suggest you to review it, it's simply beautiful. If you're from Czech, come to LinuxExpo tomorrow, I'll have two pieces there so you can touch it :)

ps: in case my little "advertisement" is bothering you: just tell me and i'll shut up O:) [2] the_greek wrote 329 days ago:
if i may add
there were problems in ubuntu on newer kernels
on older chipsets (only?) with dvd drives when chipset is using libata to access dvd ,and when is using pata drivers is ok
and to add your greatest :D

You have a new EeePC? So could we expect more (driver) support for this fine device? Good! ;) [4] j_s wrote 328 days ago:
hi tomas,
how about e1000e ethernet devices driver? [5] the_greek wrote 328 days ago:
/lib/modules/2.6.27.8/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e
is allready included. [6] poppyer wrote 328 days ago:
in the Changelog, it says:
===========
- added fake XDM to 002-xorg, so it will start fluxbox if KDE is not present.
This is mainly useful if you use 'build slax' and you only include
Slax Core and Slax Xorg.
==========
This is very useful, but how can I do that? In the 'build slax' page, all the modules are included by default, and I am not able to remove any one. [7] gonzo wrote 328 days ago:
Tried the 6.1.1 on an EeePC 900A and it works great - LAN and WLAN pp. So let's see if there is a solution for the acpi-stuff like wifi on/off etc. for the Fn-Keys. [8] Anonymous wrote 327 days ago:
That IDE problem made it unbearable to use Slax 6.0.* on some Dell and Lenovo PCs too. Thank you for for fixing it. I can't wait to download 6.1.1 now.
Someone mentioned problems with older IDE chipsets. If your fix for Intel chipsets unintentionally broke older chipsets, then a few more fixes are needed. If some LIBATA options are configured as modules, they have to be changed to built-in instead of modules. [9] mplayer guy wrote 325 days ago:
Does anyone have the layout of what is in core/and xorg modules?
ie, mplayer would now be in ...? module instead of where it was in kde? [10] ralcocer wrote 324 days ago:
Just Downloaded the 6.1.1 , since I am in orlando,Fl. right now I only have the Aspire One to test it.
The only things I was unable to run was the Alsamixer, which gives me a file not found and the Internet that only wants to run the wifi0.
Right now I am running with the old core module.
Good Work [11] j_s wrote 320 days ago:
thanks the_greek,
i found /lib/modules/2.6.27.8/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e since 6.0.9, actually e1000e-0.5.11.2 was requied for some new intel ethernet devices such as 82567LM gigabit. [12] kbhasi wrote 312 days ago:

Slax 6.1.1 the ide enhancement is wonderful. I could not however get linux-live scripts to compile a working version of 6.1.1 as I had been able to do in the past with 6.0.9.
Has anyone tried this or does anyone know what the fix is? [19] molly wrote 203 days ago:
